6 Things You Should Know About Lash Extensions

Summer is here! That means hot days at the pool, playing sports outside, staying out late and waking up later, and fitting in as much excitement as you can before the summer is over. With all of that fun, you’re bound to be low on time, and maintenance on your appearance will most likely be low on your list of priorities. So many people have turned to eyelash extensions to reduce the time spent in front of the mirror and still feel great! For those of you who have not yet taken the dive into the lash life, here are a few things to consider and even ask your lash artist!

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are individual strands of synthetic fibers that replicate real lashes. With a careful hand, each strand is placed between each eyelash, creating a fuller, longer, and more beautiful set of lashes. With the correct application, eyelash extensions can feel and look completely natural.

You can get different types of eyelash extensions depending on what look you are going for. If you are looking for a softer more fluffy lash, opt for mink lashes. If you are looking for a more dramatic effect we suggest requesting for synthetic or silk lashes. Whichever you choose, make sure you talk to your licensed lash artist to find the perfect lash for you.

Another common question is who can do lash extensions Joe Schmoe in her basement? Is there a specific license/training I should be aware of as a consumer?

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

This is one of the most asked questions because when you pay for something you want it to last as long as possible. The lifespan of eyelash extensions solely depends on an individual’s eye shape, how fast their natural eyelashes grow, and how they care for their extensions.

Eyelash extensions are expected to last the length of the natural growth cycle of your own eyelashes. For most people that is about 2-4 weeks before needing a touchup, AKA a fill.

Can I Get My Eyelash Extensions Wet?

Eyelash extensions are sealed with a specific cosmetic adhesive glue. The glue takes time to fully dry and set your lashes in place. It is highly recommended to avoid water around your lashes for the first 48 hours after getting them. By then, the glue will have set and you will be good to swim, shower, and wash your face! We do, however, advise you to stay away from steam rooms and saunas because steam can loosen the bond.

Can I Wear Mascara and Eyeliner With Eyelash Extensions?

Maybe people choose not to wear too much eye makeup with their eyelash extensions. With extensions, it gives the illusion that you are wearing eyeliner and mascara. However, if you choose to wear some, we recommend staying clear of products that have oil in them. The oil can loosen the bond and make your extensions fall out. Another thing to consider is adding mascara on your false lashes can risk creating clumpy and messy lashes.

How Do I Care For My Extensions?

How you care for your extensions will be the determining factor in how good they look and how long they last. There are a few ways to care for your lashes. We recommended following these guidelines.

  • After cleaning your lashes, brush them up with a clean eyelash wand and allow them to air dry.
  • Avoid water for the first 48 hours after getting your service done.
  • Avoid sleeping on your face. This can bend your lashes and make them fall out. Look to buy an eye mask you can wear at night to protect your lashes!
  • Do not curl your lashes
  • Use water-based eye makeup and eye makeup remover.
  • Gently brush your lashes daily with a eyelash wand.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes. Being able to rub my eyes again was the only best part of having them off besides not spending a ridiculous amount on them every 3 weeks.

How Do I Remove My Eyelash Extensions?

Because eyelash extensions are sealed with a specific cosmetic glue adhesive, a specific gel must be used to remove them. Many have found out the hard way that when you pull out your eyelash extensions you are left with damaged eyelashes and sore eyes. We recommend making an appointment to safely remove your extensions.
